Started in 2003, St. Luke's Endowment Fund was dreamed up after the church received an unexpected estate donation of $10,000.
With a desire to create something that would benefit our local community as well as lift up the importance of education the leadership started the Endowment Fund.
Out of the interest accrued on the principal amount the Endowment Fund Trustees distribute funds in two ways.
The first is that the Endowment Committee seeks and reviews proposals that stimulate and facilitate God's work. The Committee has an interest in furthering St. Luke’s mission and its ministry as a Christ based partner in the community. Types of projects supported are shown below but you are not limited to these areas:
- Development of multi-cultural and cross-cultural ministry contacts.
- New Community Initiatives, and Outreach.
- Projects to expand existing community programs (not increasing program operating funds).
- Enhance and expand community interaction within our ELCA cluster.
The second ministry that the Endowment Fund provides is the Bill Winson Scholarship Fund. Each year a new, renewable $2,000 scholarships is given to a member of the congregation who is seeking higher education. Each scholarship is renewable for up to four years for a total of $8,000. Therefore, each year, the Fund distributes $8,000 to four students.
Since it's inception in 2003, the Fund has distributed over $150,000 for local ministries and to provide scholarships!
